Really Cool Optical Effect

July 19, 2010 @ 7:46 AM

Okay, so usually I just look at these, then forget them. This one is pretty cool though, and something I haven't seen plastered all over the net.

Take a look at the picture, then stand up and go like 7-8 steps away from the monitor and take another look at the picture. The faces change places.

New Stephen Kiers Blog

July 17, 2010 @ 10:24 AM

So when Blogger announced that they were discontinuing the FTP part of their program I realized I needed to find a new solution.I also realized that I have not blogged consistently in the past and contribute a large part of the blame for that on the way I did blogging and managed my brand. I always wanted to run multiple separate blogs for everything, and never knew what section a post should go under: weddings, design, personal, rants, ministry, etc.
So as of July 2010 I have launched a new blog, that I created myself with the Umbraco CMS. As a part of my work at Vantix Systems I was required to learn Umbraco for a couple of the projects I 'inherited'. There were growing pains along the route to wear I am now, but I feel more powerful and in control than I have ever been over my work.

A couple notes about choices I made with this blog

  1. It is built on Umbraco CMS
    • Umbraco is a powerful, flexible ASP.Net Content Management System. Easy enough for me to use, but powerful enough to do anything ASP.Net can do
  2. It uses Facebook Commenting
    • Simple, easy to implement, and no need for users to sign up with me
    • However I am not impressed with the lack of control I have over my data. If people do comment, and in 5 years I want to change platforms, can I get the comments data? I hope so!
  3. Facebook Like, ReTweetMe, GoogleBuzz and Digg integration
    • I use Facebook and Twitter; but I am only hoping I am using Digg and Google Buzz properly.

So I hope you like the blog; and I hope I use it!

Please let me know your thoughts. Things that can be improved, do I have any glitches, is their functionality you think I should have? Leave your Facebook comments below!

Leaving Blogger

March 5, 2010 @ 3:59 PM

After 6 years of using blogger for my blog purposes I am going ot have to leave them; since they are discontinuing ftp publishing.

for me, the big problem is that I use ASP server side code in every page on my site; the new system will be unable to do that.

Goodbye blogger... It was a nice, free ride.  Any suggestions for replacements?

Great nike Commercial

Nike has a big ad budget, so no surprise at the quality; yet I loved this commercial. Great!

Emma and Sabino

January 25, 2010 @ 1:39 AM

The story of Emma and Sabino has really bothered me since I first heard in a couple weeks back.  The 'gist' is

  • Emma married a Mexican gentleman named Sabino about a year ago
  • Emma got pregnant
  • Sabino left the country when his visa expired
  • Sabino applied to come back
  • Emma is now almost due (Feb 5, I think)
  • Sabino's visitor visa to be here for the birth is beign repeatedly denied by the Canadian Government
  • Emma and Sabino eventually want to return to Mexico to live, not stay in Canada.

I have gotten involved petitioning the government to allow Sabino to come back. I believe he should be present for the birth of his baby.

I encourage you to get more info on Facebook, sign the Online Petition or write a letter to the people with power.
And don't forget to pray!

Update: Sabino made it! Check out http://emmaandsabino.com/ for more updates!
